Dogs. I love them. Especially my own. So much so that my wife and I decided that we wanted to throw our dog a party to celebrate his 4th (28th in dog years) birthday. But then came the thought… how do we invite people to this (potentially) unusual event?
We considered a Facebook invite (too casual and impersonal), a printed invite (too formal), and word-of-mouth (not formal enough), until we finally decided on sending a HTML email invitation. A HTML email would allow us to send the invitation to a private and isolated group of people, be as casual as we would like, and also allow for an instant RSVP.
Given the context of the event (super casual, slightly ridiculous), I designed an animated email that included humorous and casual wording. I chose blue and red as the main colour scheme to evoke a fun, party feel, and used typography to highlight the key messages.
At the end of the email I included a clear RSVP function — “Yes, I will attend the best party in the history of parties ever” and “No, I hate you, your dog, and all things party related”. Luckily, none of our invitees selected the latter.
The final design is below, and was a huge success. We received RSVP’s within the hour of it being sent, and additional TXT’s and messages that they loved the invite.

Overall, I’m really happy with how this one turned out, and hopefully the event will be a success!
